Steve Kerr: "Very, very close" to Knicks deal before signing with Warriors

In today's Warriors news update, new Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr was rumored to be all but signed with the New York Knicks before shocking the basketball world with his choice to head to the Bay Area.

Now, Marc Berman of the New York Post is indicating that the verbal commitment that Knicks president Phil Jackson spoke of in regard to the team's negotiations with Kerr may not be far from the truth:

Jackson said that he basically had to give Kerr the go-ahead to break their commitment - doing what was right for Steve Kerr himself and his family.

Regardless, Kerr's five-year, $25 million deal with the Golden State Warriors renders a lot of this talk of hindsight as moot. The Knicks will move on to find a coach themselves, and Kerr will join the Warriors to begin offseason preparations once his commitment at TNT is completed.
