Iguodala hits buzzer beater as Warriors win eighth straight game

It’s only the second game of the new year, and the Warriors are already making headlines. Golden State holds the NBA’s longest active winning streak, with eight straight wins. The Warriors played the Atlanta Hawks on the second night of a back-to-back, and despite struggling through much of the game, they pulled away with an unexpected victory.

The Warriors were worn out from Thursday’s win against the Miami Heat, and you could tell. Their play was sloppy and they allowed the Hawks to build a 15-point lead during the fourth quarter; however, the Warriors weren’t going to let a little fatigue end their winning streak—they managed to rally yet again.

Golden State took the lead in the final minutes of the fourth quarter, going up 96-95, but Atlanta responded quickly and put the Warriors down 100-96 with time winding down. The Warriors cut the lead to two, but with mere seconds left on the clock, it seemed as if the game was over and Golden State’s winning streak had reached an end.

But the Warriors had no intention of giving up—especially after they had erased a 15-point deficit. They shot a mere 45% and went an uncharacteristic six for 27 from three-point range. Luckily for Golden State, Andre Iguodala came in to save the day once again when he knocked down a 3-pointer at the buzzer to beat the Hawks 101-100, extending the Warriors’ winning streak to eight.

Golden State hasn’t won nine straight games since a 10-game run in 1975, and they haven’t won six consecutive away games since 2005. The odds have never been in the Warriors favor, but they always seem to accomplish the unexpected. They look to get their ninth straight win and sixth consecutive road win on Sunday against the Washington Wizards.
