Georgia Tech head coach Paul Johnson expressed his support for the Statesboro community in a heartfelt Tweet on Tuesday, after news of a deadly auto accident broke.
Heartbreaking news from Statesboro, the families and @GeorgiaSouthern community are in our thoughts and prayers #GSUstrong #EagleNation
Five nursing students from Georgia Southern died in the seven-vehicle crash, authorities told NBC News. Two other students were injured in the event, too.
The news hits close to home for Johnson, who coached at Georgia Southern as an assistant from 1983-86 before returning as the head coach from 1997-2001.
