Georgia Tech missed a bowl in 2017 and Central Florida finished the season undefeated, but was left out of the College Football Playoff. A hurricane cancelled game left both teams without an extra game to improve their postseason chances.
Hurricane Irma made its way across basically the entire state of Florida last September, and with the UCF football stadium being used to stage relief efforts, the Knights cancelled their 9/16 matchup with Georgia Tech.
The Jackets finished the season one game shy of bowl eligibility, while UCF didn’t have a strong enough schedule to impress the playoff committee, even without a loss.
