Georgia Tech defensive coordinator Ted Roof is officially out on the Flats, ending his up and down five-year tenure at Tech after a string of poor seasons from his defensive units. The news comes just two days after head coach Paul Johnson remained noncommittal towards Roof’s future, urging the media to “ask coach Roof” whether or not the embattled coordinator would return in 2018.
Though most expected Roof to be fired after Tech’s miserable end to the season, it appears that his departure was actually somewhat mutual — he accepted a job as co-defensive coordinator and associate head coach under Dave Doeren at NC State as opposed to being terminated at Tech.
