Buzz Preston moves on from hopes of Hawaii job

Georgia Tech wide receivers coach Buzz Preston is not counting on an invitation to interview for the head coaching vacancy at Hawaii, his alma mater.

Preston had sought the opening after Norm Chow’s firing Nov. 1.

“I think that ship’s sailed,” Preston said Monday. “That’s the way it goes. So, move on with my life and wish them the best.”

With only one year of coordinating experience in 35 years of college coaching, Preston was an underdog candidate, despite his ties to the school. Preston played there, began his coaching career there as a graduate assistant and returned as a receivers coach in 1987, serving seven seasons.
