Wages' Gem Earns National Player of Week Award

ATLANTA -- Georgia State starting pitcher Wayne Wages was named a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball newspaper after the senior left-hander came within two outs of a perfect game.

He is Georgia State's second National Player of the Week in the last three weeks, joining senior catcher Joey Roach, and the Panthers' fifth honoree since 2014.

Wages was perfect for 8-1/3 innings before finishing with a one-hit shutout in the Panthers' 10-0 win over Appalachian State.

The Lawrenceville, Ga., native just missed throwing what would have been the first no-hitter in Georgia State history.
