Panthers Top Mountaineers with Dominant Defensive Second Half

ATLANTA – Deasia Merrill scored 23 points and Mikyla Tolivert scored 20 as Georgia State used a dominant defensive second half to top Appalachian State 64-56 at the GSU Convocation Center on Thursday night.

Merrill shot 10-of-15 and grabbed 13 rebounds, equaling her career-high, to record her fifth double-double of the season. Tolivert shot 8-of-16 and 2-of-5 from three and has now scored 20 or more points in three straight games, averaging 23.3 points and shooting just under 50 percent in that span.

Alyssa Phillip also played a huge role in Georgia State's huge 47-26 rebounding advantage, pulling down a career-high 11 rebounds in her fourth straight start.
