Gatewood Drafted in 11th Round by San Diego

ATLANTA -- Georgia State catcher Nick Gatewood was selected Wednesday by the San Diego Padres in the 11th round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

A junior from Duluth, Ga., who attended Peachtree Ridge High School, Gatewood was a first-team All-Sun Belt Conference selection in 2018. The left-handed hitter led the Panthers with 13 home runs and 49 runs batted in while hitting .322.

Gatewood was the No. 321 overall selection, making him Georgia State's third-highest draft pick ever, following pitcher David Buchanan, a seventh-round pick by the Philadelphia Phillies in 2010 who went on to reach the Major Leagues, and infielder Scott Youngbauer, a 10th-round pick by the Phillies in 2000.
