Driesell Elected into Naismith Memorial Basketball HOF

ATLANTA-Legendary former Georgia State men’s basketball head coach Charles “Lefty” Driesell has been elected into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as announced by the organization on Saturday.

He will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in September in Springfield, Mass., during a weekend of festivities.

Driesell won 786 games at four schools in 40-plus years as a college head coach. He was the first coach in NCAA history to win more than 100 games at four schools: Davidson, Maryland, James Madison and Georgia State.

In five-plus seasons at Georgia State, Driesell led the Panthers to a 103-59 record, including three regular season conference titles and a tournament championship in 2001 where he guided a squad that finished 29-5 into the second round of the NCAA tournament after a first-round upset of Wisconsin.
