STATESBORO – Georgia Southern freshman right-hander Maddie Johnson has been named Softball America Freshman All-American the publication announced Tuesday afternoon. Johnson earns her first All-American honors and the first in program history.
Johnson led the Georgia Southern pitching staff and Sun Belt Conference posting a 2.03 overall ERA. Johnson went 12-10 on the season tossing a team-high 145.0 innings including 110 strikeouts, for fifth most in the conference, and held opponents to a .220 batting average. She tallied a team-high 13 complete games on the season.
In non-conference play, Johnson picked up wins over three power four schools in Michigan, UCF, and Maryland.
