STATESBORO - Student-athletes are taking initiative in the community this summer and Eagles such as Emmy Johnson are leading the way with new ideas that help support the local Statesboro youths. Johnson has been a part of the women's rifle team since its inception three years ago and is pursuing her degree in child and family development.
In attempt to reach out to the youth in the area, Johnson teamed up Department of Juvenile Justice to create a special project for the kids. She created a class where athletes would be able to speak to the younger kids, encouraging them to reach their goals and strive to overcome their current situation.
