In a competitive Sun Belt Conference, a solid winning season for Georgia Southern was still good for just a No. 6 seed in the eight-team tournament beginning today in San Marcos, Tex. Luckily for the Eagles, wins matter much more than seeding at this time of the year.
Whereas many sports in the Sun Belt host conference tournaments that heavily reward top seeds with brackets that can require two fewer victories to take home the trophy, the baseball bracket is much more equitable. The top four seeds will have the advantage of being the home team and will face a team with a worse conference record in today’s matchups, but all teams will begin at the exact same step of a double-elimination sprint to the finish that will end with a champion being crowned Sunday afternoon.
