Lou Groza Award Got It Terribly Wrong, But Rodrigo Blankenship All Class After Being Robbed Of Postseason Honor

On Monday, the three finalist were announced for the Lou Groza Award, given annually to the nation’s top placekicker.

LSU’s Cole Tracy, Andre Szymt of Syracuse and Wyoming’s Cooper Rothe were listed as the three finalist for the prestigious award.

Missing from that list is arguably the nation’s best kicker, Rodrigo Blankenship out of Georgia.

Blankenship, who ranks sixth in the nation in field goal percentage at 90%, has been extremely reliable this season for the Dawgs. The Marietta, Georgia native is also a perfect 141/141 on extra points in his Georgia career.

Now a junior, Blankenship has hit some massive kicks in his three years at UGA, including a clutch 55 yarder at the end of the first half of the Rose Bowl to cut Oklahoma’s lead to 14 points.
