Georgia coach Kirby Smart said he it wasn’t difficult to focus in on a replacement for outgoing outside linebackers coach Kevin Sherrer, who is Tennessee’s new defensive coordinator.
Smart hired Dan Lanning away from Memphis and he said on “The Official Visit’ show on Atlanta’s 680 The Fan that hiring Lanning “really a no-brainer for me.”
Lanning, 29, just finished his second season at Memphis. In 2015, Lanning was a graduate assistant coach and worked with outside linebackers.
“Dan was a guy that I actually considered when I got the job (in 2015),” Smart said. “… He’s worked with outside linebackers, inside linebackers, safeties and he’d done special teams.
