Kirby Smart gets first shot at Gators as head coach after losses and one big win as a player

The words from a couple of decades ago that Kirby Smart uttered as a Georgia junior safety probably still hold true today in his first year as Bulldogs head coach.

“Losing is bad enough, but losing to Florida every year is worse,” Smart said in 1997 in the Orlando Sentinel. “It was mentally draining. We were very tired of losing to Florida, and we’ve been trying to get to the level that they’re at.
