Four-star outside linebacker Walter Grant brightened Kirby Smart’s weekend on Friday night when he committed to Georgia. He chose the Bulldogs over Alabama.
Grant (6 feet 4, 237 pounds), from Cairo (Ga.) High, made the announcement at the end of Cairo’s win over Columbus (Ga.) Northside. Grant was asked by the public-address announcer where he would attend college. Grant announced that he would be heading to Georgia and the crowd erupted in cheers.
Grant did not play in the game, as Cairo already had clinched a playoff berth and Syrupmakers coaches decided to give him a rest after he suffered a slight knee injury last week.
