Georgia avoids monumental upset, nips Nicholls State

Georgia avoided what would’ve been one of the biggest upsets in college football history Saturday when the Bulldogs held off FCS opponent Nicholls State 26-24 in their home opener.

Nicholls State came in having won a combined 19 games in the past eight seasons and has had a losing record in 23 of the past 27 seasons. Nicholls now is 0-15 against FBS foes since the start of the 2010 season, and has surrendered at least 44 points 10 times, at least 66 points five times and at least 70 points four times.

Nicholls State played two FBS opponents last season, Colorado and Louisiana-Monroe.
