The College Football Playoff is only one year deep into their new 12-team format, but more changes appear to be on the horizon. The idea of further expansion beyond 12 teams has been floated around ever since the CFP agreed to move to 12 teams, but there was one big thing preventing this expansion.
The Big Ten was not happy that the SEC was continuing to play eight game conference schedules when they have been playing nine game conference schedules for a decade now. This difference was a huge blocker in the CFP expanding again, but the SEC announced earlier this week that they will start playing nine game conference seasons beginning in 2026.
