At least according to his Instagram feed, former Cal receiver Demetris Robertson has arrived in Athens.
His arrival date on the Sanford Stadium turf of course remains up in the air. Robertson is likely to apply for a hardship waiver, which would allow him to play in 2018 if he meets certain criteria, including proving that a transfer was in his best physical or emotional interest.
Such a waiver is not the NCAA’s preferred vehicle for dealing with transfers. Rather, since amending the transfer rules in 2015 the folks in Indianapolis have shown a preference for allowing players a sixth year of eligibility on the backend of their careers.
