Defensive line could be Kirby Smart’s Achilles’ heel in 2016

Throughout the spring, Georgia coach Kirby Smart bemoaned the lack of depth along both lines. That is especially true with the defensive line, which has no seniors, one junior (nose tackle John Atkins) and an ever-dwindling number of linemen.

Heading into the summer, the Bulldogs have 12 linemen after the dismissal of sophomore end Chauncey Rivers. Of those 12, five are true freshmen. One lineman, sophomore Michael Barnett, missed spring drills because of a knee injury, but he should be 100 percent when fall camp opens. His versatility – he can play end and tackle – is a big positive among this group.
