Carla Williams leaving Georgia to take Virginia athletics director position | Columbus Ledger-Enquirer

Virginia has announced that Carla Williams will be its new athletics director.

Williams has been Georgia's deputy athletics director since 2015 and has worked with the program since 2004. She is set to become Virginia's first African American female athletics director.

At Georgia, Williams worked as an administrator with the football and women's basketball teams. A featured representative at athletics board meetings, Williams was regularly spotted sitting next to and assisting athletics director Greg McGarity.

“I am extremely grateful for this opportunity to lead one of the nation’s elite athletics programs,” Williams said in a statement.
