New FSU football coaching hire hits on what's been missing with bold statement

The FSU football defense has a few weaknesses in its first year under new defensive coordinator Tony White. The Noles transitioned from a predominantly 4-2-5 defense man-to-man scheme to a 3-3-5 base with multiple fronts and a heavy zone scheme in the secondary.

One of the biggest weaknesses of this defense was the lack of pass rush from the defensive line. That was something I pointed out before the season, that a lot of White’s pass rush came from a multitude of positions, including the linebackers. However, FSU used quite a bit of 4-man fronts in 2025, and may do more of that in 2026.
