FSU DB Asante Samuel Jr. selected No. 47 in the NFL Draft by San Diego Chargers

Florida State’s Asante Samuel Jr. became the lastest Seminoles defensive back drafted after the San Diego Chargers selected him with the No. 47 pick Friday.

FSU has produced a long line of NFL-caliber defensive back including Derwin James, Jalen Ramsey, Xavier Rhodes, Patrick Robinson and Antonio Cromartie.

Samuel, whose father was drafted by the New England Patriots in 2003 after playing cornerback at UCF, appeared in 31 games for FSU.

Samuel was a two-time, All-ACC performer earning a first-team nod in 2020 after recording 31 tackles, three interceptions, six pass breakups and two fumble recoveries. He was the third Seminole since 2000 with at least three interceptions and two fumble recoveries in a season.
