Wednesday Caterwaul: First Round Open Forum

The “official” First Round of the NHL started yesterday with what was supposed to be four games, but, turned into three, thanks to one of the longest games in the history of the league. Tampa Bay, Calgary and Vegas took series-opening wins, while the game bewteen Boston and Carolina was postponed. Teams that win Game 1 are 478-219 (68.6 percent) winning a best-of-7 NHL playoff series.

Tampa Bay Lightning 3, Columbus Blue Jackets 2 (5OT)

Brayden Point scored 10:27 into the fifth overtime to end the fourth-longest game in NHL history and give the Tampa Bay Lightning a 3-2 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.
