Montembeault Shines For Panthers In Shootout Loss To Islanders

SUNRISE (CBSMiami/AP) — Florida’s rookie goaltender looked like a seasoned veteran against one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference, but it wasn’t enough to get his team a win.

Brock Nelson scored in the second period and then got the winner in the fourth round of the shootout to give the New York Islanders a 2-1 victory over the Florida Panthers on Thursday night.

Thomas Greiss finished with 29 saves through overtime and thwarted all four Florida attempts in the tiebreaker as the Islanders won for the third time in four games.

New York also remained two points ahead of Pittsburgh for second place in the Metropolitan Division and home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs.
