MIAMI – FIU women's soccer dropped its first conference match of the season, falling 2-1 to Liberty on Sunday afternoon.

The Panthers limited Liberty's opportunities in the first half, allowing just five shots and two shots on goal.

The Flames broke through in the 36th minute, as Isabella Wedemeyer found the back of the net to give Liberty a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with both teams tightening up defensively until Liberty doubled its advantage in the 80th minute.

FIU responded immediately, scoring less than a minute later when senior Chinatsu Kaio netted her third goal of the season, and first since August 24, to cut the deficit to 2-1.
