THE COMEBACK KIDS: After missing 2017 with injuries, Eddie Silva and Andres Nunez are enjoying their finest seasons

Andres Nunez crumpled to the ground, feeling as if the right side of his torso had been pierced.

Nunez had just thrown the 62nd pitch in the 2016 FIU regular season finale against Southern Miss and had never felt pain like this. The then-sophomore FIU right-hander tore his right lat muscle – a rare injury in baseball.

"It felt like if someone stabbed me in the armpit," Nunez recalled. "It didn't feel right, and I fell to the ground. It wasn't the greatest feeling."

Ten months later in Coral Gables, Panthers third baseman Eddie Silva was warming up in between innings in a game against Miami.
