Tuesday, the state officially dropped aggravated battery charges against Miami Gardens’ Mary Gaspar, who police say admitted to pouring a pot of boling water on then-FIU tight end Jonnu Smith last Halloween.

Smith, now with the Tennessee Titans, suffered severe burns. Gaspar, 21, pleaded not guilty despite the burns on various Smith bodyparts.

Since Smith’s burning, Gaspar has given birth to their son and Tennessee has drafted Smith in the third round. Going into the final preseason game, Smith’s caught five passes for 47 yards and no touchdowns for a struggling Tennessee offense. He’s listed as the third-team tight end behind Delanie Walker, who predicted Smith would surpass him, and Phillip Supernaw.
