MIAMI (March 13, 2022) – In the longest game in program history, FIU baseball fell in 20 innings to Jacksonville by a score of 9-4.
The FIU batters scattered 12 hits across the 20 innings with the Panther trio of Dante Girardi, Matthew Gonzalez and Dalton Hurst each collecting a pair of hits.
In addition to Girardi's two hits, the sophomore also walked three times on Sunday afternoon to reach base a total of five times. Alec Sanchez also drew three walks on the day.
FIU struck first in the third when Robert Sotolongo scored on a wild pitch before Steven Ondina crossed home on a double steal attempt to give the Panthers an early 2-0 advantage.
