FIU freshman right-hander Nick MacDonald limited Manhattan to two hits over 7 2/3 innings to lead the Panthers past the Jaspers, 5-1, Sunday afternoon at the FIU ballpark.
FIU (5-6) took three of four games from Manhattan (1-6) in the series that saw the Panthers win the final three games of the weekend.
MacDonald (1-0), making his second college start, allowed only one run, walked one and struck out nine Jaspers.
MacDonald retired 11 of the first 12 batters he faced before the Jaspers got their first hit. Manhattan designated hitter Evan Brown hit a solo home run to left with two outs in the fourth inning for the first Jaspers safety.
