With two quality starts and timely hitting, FIU swept a doubleheader from Manhattan Saturday at the FIU ballpark. The Panthers (4-6) took the first game, 7-3, and won the nightcap, 5-3, against the Jaspers (1-5). Both teams agreed to a seven-inning game in the second game.
Game 1 – FIU 7, Manhattan 3
Left-hander Dominic LoBrutto, making just his third career start, went a career-high 7 1/3 innings and allowed one earned run while striking out eight batters to lead FIU in the opener of the twinbill. LoBrutto (1-0) scattered three hits and walked just one batter to record the win.
