MIAMI (March 9, 2021) – Goalkeeper Johan Peñaranda of FIU men's soccer has been named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon.
The award marks the first for Peñaranda as a Panther, and the second consecutive league honor for FIU, after Alessandro Campoy won Offensive Player of the Week on March 2.
Peñaranda recorded six saves and posted a clean sheet in FIU's 2-0 victory over rival FIU on Saturday, March 6. The keeper faced 13 shots from the Owls and played a full 90-minutes in goal making clutch saves in both periods.
