MIAMI (June 14, 2020) – FIU's Jose Garcia signed a free agent deal with the Boston Red Sox on Sunday, becoming the second Panther to join the pro ranks this summer after Logan Allen was selected 56th overall by the Cleveland Indians in the 2020 MLB Draft last week.
MLB's Draft usually consists of 40 rounds, however, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, this year's draft was shortened to five rounds.
Garcia opened the 2020 season by being named C-USA Hitter of the Week for the week of Feb. 17th. The hard-hitting righty went 7-for-12 with six RBIs, a pair of doubles and a home run against Fordham on opening weekend.
