BILOXI, MISSISSIPPI – David Miranda's three-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning pushed Florida Atlantic past FIU, 7-4, in Game 1 of the Conference USA Championship at MGM Park Wednesday afternoon in Biloxi.
With the loss in the double-elimination tournament, the Panthers (26-27) drop into the losers' bracket. FIU faces an elimination game against the loser of Rice and Louisiana Tech on Thursday morning at 10 a.m. EDT.
FIU and FAU began play at 9:10 a.m. Central and finished at 4:43 p.m. after two lightning delays that totaled three hours and 14 minutes.
The Panthers had an early 1-0 lead before the first delay.
