MIAMI (October 16, 2017) – FIU junior defensive end Fermin Silva (Miami, Florida/Miami Central) has been named the Conference USA Football Defensive Player of the Week, for the week ending Oct. 14, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. The honor is the first of Silva's career.
Silva had eight solo tackles and three unassisted tackles in FIU's 23-10 win over Tulane on Saturday. In addition, Silva recorded two sacks, three tackles for a loss (-13) and four quarterback hurries. His second of the two sacks came on fourth-and-eight on the FIU 17-yard line with 2:24 left in the game, forcing the Green Wave to turn the ball over on downs.
