Besides a former defensive coordinator, there are some commonalities between FIU and Temple, who meet for the first time in the Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl at Tropicana Field on Dec. 21 in St. Petersburg.
Not only do the Panthers and Owls matchup statistically, but both teams are a lot alike on the field. Both FIU and Temple have coaches in their first-year with each program in Butch Davis and Geoff Collins, respectively.
Although Davis does not have any Temple or Philadelphia ties, Collins has FIU connections. Collins (photo below) was FIU's defensive coordinator in the 2010 season.
