The Panthers and Hurricanes were evenly matched through the first three innings, before Chavez belted a pitch over the scoreboard in left field to give FIU the 2-0 lead in the top half of the fourth. The homer for Chavez was his first since Feb. 16, 2020.
The Hurricanes plated three runs in the bottom half of the fourth to retake the lead however, before scoring five more runs over the next three innings.
