As FIU prepares to begin its 17th football season when camp opens Friday morning, the Panthers will be without their top four tacklers from a season ago. Those players: linebackers Anthony Wint and Treyvon Williams, and safeties Bryce Canady and Niko Gonzalez have all graduated.
FIU got a glimpse of what life would be like without half of that quartet against Tulane last season. Facing the No. 8 rushing team in the nation, sans the then-injured Wint and Williams, the Panthers limited the Green Wave to just 81 rushing yards in the first half of a 23-10 FIU win last October.
