Charlotte got a hit-and-run RBI double from T.J. Nichting and scored two more runs in the top of the fourth inning to defeat FIU, 4-0, Friday night in the opener of Conference USA play for both teams at the FIU ballpark.
After Nichting's bloop double to right off FIU starter Robert Garcia (1-3), the 49ers (12-6, 1-0 C-USA) drew two bases loaded walks from Garcia to increase their lead to 3-0.
