MIAMI (Aug. 10, 2020) – After leading the West Boca Snappers to their third-straight league title, FIU's Derek Cartaya was named 2020 South Florida Championship Series MVP on Saturday.
The returning senior batted .360 with three doubles, nine RBIs and seven stolen bases during the regular season before going 3-for-5 with a double and two runs batted in as the Snappers downed the Florida Pokers, 9-3.
Cartaya slashed a .367 batting average with two doubles and six RBIs before the 2020 season was canceled in March due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
