Butch Davis' 44 years of coaching has him ready for toughest challenge of career

MIAMI — Butch Davis gives two reasons why a Super Bowl 28 ring adorns his right hand almost a quarter century after he earned it.

The first is that it represents what to that point was his biggest professional accomplishment — Davis’ inaugural season as Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator. The second stems from “the toughness and adversity” Davis proudly recalls the 1993 Cowboys displayed and overcame, respectively, en route to repeating as NFL champions.

There’s also something that goes unsaid.

Davis can use the gravitas provided by the four-diamond sparkler as he undertakes the biggest challenge of his 44-year coaching career: Helping Florida International achieve college football relevancy.
