The Gold racked up 10 hits, including a three-run home run by freshman Adan Fernandez, to cruise past the Blue, 7-3, in Game 1 of the FIU Blue & Gold Fall Series. With a win in Game 2 on Tuesday, the Gold would win the series.
Gold sophomore right-hander Nick MacDonald was in mid-season form going four innings, allowing just two hits, one run and struck out seven batters to record the win.
The Gold scored two runs in the first and third innings to jump to a 4-1 lead. RBI singles by Javier Valdes, Fernandez and Eddie Silva helped produce the runs.
