On the surface, it appears a good fit.
When Scottie Wilbekin joined Oklahoma City’s summer league team, it allowed the former Gator point guard to reconnect with his former coach, Billy Donovan. In addition, Thunder summer league coach Mark Daigneault was on UF’s staff when Wilbekin played on campus.
But Wilbekin, a Gainesville native and former The Rock School standout, said he knows those connections alone won’t ensure a longer look from OKC.
“It definitely can’t hurt,” Wilbekin said. “I don’t know how much it can help. You’ve still gotta go out there and play the game, but definitely it’s better than them not knowing me.
