UF to rely on young pitchers as they work to extend their CWS run

And now the hard part.

Florida’s pitching situation at the College World Series is muddled, much like the weather. Coach Kevin O’Sullivan has relied on first-round picks Brady Singer and Jackson Kowar for much of season, but now must turn to two freshman.

Jack Leftwich (4-5, 4.32 ERA) will likely start at 8 p.m. Thursday in an elimination game against Texas Tech. If Leftwich encounters trouble, Tommy Mace (5-0, 4.45) will be called upon quickly.

“Jack’s certainly capable. He’s got a live arm,” O’Sullivan said. “It would be nice to save Tommy for a potential fourth game, but we may not be able to do that.
