UF QB, Gainesville native Anthony Richardson aims to elevate Gators from backup role

GAINESVILLE — From his size to his arm strength to his athletic ability, Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson looks every bit a future star.

Gators’ record-setting signal caller Kyle Trask saw Richardson’s potential immediately, calling him “a stud” after just a couple of practices leading up to the 2020 Cotton Bowl.

Richardson has continued to shine during his second preseason camp with the Gators, the Gainesville native’s first without the COVID-19 pandemic at the forefront.

Despite Richardson’s highlights and high ceiling the redshirt freshman is not pushing for a starring role just yet, instead happily serving as the understudy to starter Emory Jones, who finally is getting his shot during his fourth year in Dan Mullen’s program.
