Tim Tebow heading for Class A-ball — in Columbia

From Gainesville to Columbia? Steve Spurrier did it, and now it looks as if Tim Tebow is following the same path — on the baseball diamond.

Tebow, launching the first full season of his baseball career, has been assigned to the New York Mets’ A-ball affiliate, as reported by Newsday. That affiliate just happens to be the Columbia Fireflies of the South Atlantic League. Columbia, as in Columbia, S.C.

In the South Atlantic League, he’ll travel to one other SEC city — Lexington, the home of Kentucky football as well as the Lexington Legends, the Kansas City Royals’ affiliate.
