No Gators football players test positive for COVID-19, but UF expects that to change

No one on the Florida Gators football team has tested positive for COVID-19, but the school’s top athletic trainers say that is sure to change as athletes return to campus.

“That is something we’re definitely going to have to be ready to deal with,” Stacy Higgins, an associate athletics director of sports health, said Tuesday. “We’re going to live with COVID, for sure.”

Two UF thletes - one in April and one not currently in Gainesville - have tested positive for COVID-19, the illness caused by coronavirus.

But of the 87 football players returning for on-campus workouts that began Monday, 80 tested negative for the virus, while the results of seven tests are pending.
