Memorable pick earns Lito Sheppard place in Florida-Georgia Hall of Fame

Legendary Florida coach Steve Spurrier regularly produced playmakers on offense.

Lito Sheppard was the rare defender at UF during the Spurrier era who forged his own reputation as a playmaker. Sheppard was breathtaking with the ball in his hands.

Whether on an interception or punt return, Sheppard looked like an athlete capable of generating 1,000-yard receiving seasons had Spurrier needed him for his prolific Fun ‘N’ Gun’ attack.

Georgia found that out the hard way in the 2000 meeting. Sheppard picked off Bulldogs quarterback Quincy Carter at UF’s 13 and broke a 61-yard return to the Georgia 26.
