John Reaves, former Florida All-SEC quarterback, dies at 67

Former Florida Gators quarterback John Reaves, who finished his career in 1971 as the NCAA’s leading career passer, has died at age 67. Reaves was found dead in his home in the Tampa area Tuesday, the Tampa Bay Times reported.

The cause of death is not known.

Reaves had starred for Tampa’s Robinson High and was a major recruiting win for Florida. He played for the Gators from 1969-71 under coaches Ray Graves and Doug Dickey. His first college pass was a 70-yard touchdown throw to Carlos Alvarez in a season-opening victory over Houston in 1969 that signaled the arrival of Florida’s “Super Sophs.
